Joint Admissions to UMass Lowell

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) and UMass Lowell (UML) have partnered to create a clear path toward bachelor degree completion and enhance the transfer process. Students participating in the joint admissions will enjoy benefits such as:

  • Working with a dedicated Joint Admissions counselor
  • Participating in events at the UML campus 
  • Transportation provided to special events at UML at least once per year
  • UML application fee waived
  • Priority course registration upon transfer
  • Priority consideration of merit-based scholarships
  • Students who complete the MassTransfer General Education Foundation will be exempt from UML’s Core Curriculum*

*Student’s final transcript must indicate completion of the MassTransfer General Education Foundation.  

How this works 

To participate in Joint Admissions, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be enrolled in an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree at BHCC 
  2. Complete a participation form during an Information Session (coming soon!) or with a UML Transfer Admissions Counselor or the BHCC Coordinator of Enrollment
  3. Complete their Associate of Art or Associate of Science degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  4. Complete the UML application, submit all official college transcripts, and the College Transfer Report to UML Admissions
  5. Complete the intent to enroll form for UML

Note: Not all programs at UML are eligible for joint admissions and some programs require additional criteria.

Additional Information

Transfer Credits 

BHCC A.A. and A.S. graduates are eligible to receive up to 60 transfer credits. Students with 61+ credits will complete a petition with UML to have their credits accepted. UML will not accept more than 75 transfer credits. Only courses completed with a grade of “C-“ or higher will be accepted for transfer. Students who complete the A.A. or A.S. degree at BHCC shall be exempt from completing UMass Lowell’s Core Curriculum as those requirements are considered met at BHCC. 

Reverse Transfer 

Students who transfer before they receive their associate degree may be eligible to participate in Reverse Transfer to receive an Associate degree from BHCC after transferring. 

MassTransfer

Any terms in the Joint Admissions agreement conflicting with MassTransfer and Commonwealth Commitment shall be superseded by the established MassTransfer and Commonwealth Commitment programs.
