Dual Enrollment

The Dual Enrollment Program at BHCC enables high school students from area schools to earn high school and college credits simultaneously, while gaining familiarity with the college experience. The Dual Enrollment staff provides students with advice on procedures for Accuplacer testing, BHCC enrollment and college expectations. The staff also provides academic and non-academic support for students throughout their time at the College, which entails following up on the students’ progress to make sure that they are successfully completing their classes and checking on the students’ performance, attendance and completion of assignments. The Dual Enrollment staff ensures that students are connected to the many academic support programs and resources on campus. Dual Enrollment students are exposed to the Tutoring and Academic Support Center, The Writing Place, the library, computer labs, and the Math Space, to name a few. Bunker Hill Community College has provided institutional funding for the program since its inception in 2007. Additional funding is provided by a grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Why participate in the Dual Enrollment Program?

  • Obtain college credit that can be transferred to many colleges and universities
  • Take a course that is not offered in high school
  • Explore potential majors and learn more about the college experience
  • Improve high school transcript
  • Enrich college applications
  • Gain confidence in the ability to succeed in college

Some of the Dual Enrollment students have been able to graduate from high school with over 30 college credits completed through our Dual Enrollment program, allowing them to both save on tuition costs and to get ahead academically to begin college as sophomores. The program has also allowed students to work on the pre-requisite courses to some of our most selective programs while still in high school, so that they can start the program immediately after graduation. For example, a 2013 graduate of Everett High School who participated in our Dual Enrollment program became the first ever student to be accepted into the Nursing Program at BHCC directly out of high school.
