The BHCC student Sustainability Club in one of the newest student clubs at the college. Founded in 2010 by co-presidents Elsa John (BHCC ’11) and Brian Alves (BHCC ’11), and original faculty advisor Mike D’Entremont, the club quickly became an important mechanism for increasing awareness of sustainability related initiatives for the entire college community. The Club’s core mission is to increase awareness of sustainability throughout the BHCC community and to set an example for environmental conservation.
The Club’s work has accelerated in scope and impact to include participation in local, regional and national sustainability initiatives. The Club’s membership has nearly tripled in less than a year and current plans include developing a community garden project, creating a sustainability awareness video and launching a “Mr. and Ms. Sustainability contest for BHCC students.
