Veterans' GI Bill® benefits to continue during COVID-19 pandemic
On December 21, 2021, President Biden signed the Responsible Education Mitigating Options and Technical Extensions Act or the REMOTE Act into law

Section two of this law extends the various COVID-19 protections for GI Bill students from December 21, 2021, to June 1, 2022. In part, this means that students who were attending a course that was converted to online training because of COVID-19, and were getting paid the resident rate, may continue to train online, and will continue to receive the resident housing rate until June 1, 2022.

Recognized as a Veterans friendly college, BHCC is a great place to explore your academic and career options.

Reasons to consider attending BHCC:

  • Veterans Center with resource computers
  • Support from devoted Veterans Center staff
  • Veterans/Military focused new student orientation program
  • MBTA T stop located at the front of the college

Please come and visit the Veterans Center located in E234B on the Charlestown Campus.

Bunker Hill Community College Valor Act Credit Evaluation Policy

In accordance with the Valor Act, Bunker Hill Community College uses the American Council on Education (ACE) military program guidelines to the evaluation of educational experience in the Armed Services as the primary method for evaluating and awarding academic credit for military occupation, training, experience, and coursework.

Delayed VA Payments

Under S2248 PL 115-407 Section 103, Bunker Hill Community College will not impose a late fee, denial of access to facilities, or other penalty against a veteran or eligible dependent due to a late payment of tuition and/or fees from the VA up to the certified benefits amount. Any portion of the student bill not covered by VA benefits is still expected to be settled by the due date.

Students must submit a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or Statement of Benefits and a request to be certified. Provide any additional information as required by the School Certifying Official.

Section 702 Of The Choice Act

Section 702 of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 (“Choice Act”), requires VA to disapprove programs of education for payment of benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® and Montgomery GI Bill®-Active Duty at public institutions of higher learning if the schools charge qualifying Veterans and dependents tuition and fees in excess of the rate for resident students for terms beginning after July 1, 2015. These new requirements will ensure that our Nation’s recently discharged Veterans, and their eligible family members, will not have to bear the cost of out-of-state charges while using their well-deserved education benefits.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
