Bunker Hill Community College Welcomes Two New Board Members

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) welcomes Becca Gould and David Shapiro as new members of the Board of Trustees. “Lieutenant Governor Polito and I congratulate the trustees on their appointment and appreciate their willingness to serve the Commonwealth in this capacity,” said Governor Charlie Baker. These appointees bring extensive leadership, professional, and academic experiences to the College and their students.”
Becca Gould was appointed by Governor Baker on March 2, 2022. She is a Senior Vice President of Public Affairs at American Tower, where she leads American Tower’s engagement with policymakers and industry groups. Prior to joining American Tower, over the course of twelve years, Becca built and managed Dell’s Global Government Affairs and Public Policy team based in the capitals of most major markets. She was also a Vice President of Global Public Policy at the Business Software Alliance and an attorney with the law firm of Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand. She began her career as Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce.
“Ms. Gould’s background and expertise in public policy will bring value to the BHCC Board,” said Board of Trustee Chair Bill Walczak. Her legal perspectives and leadership experience will benefit the BHCC Community and its mission.
David Shapiro was appointed by Governor Baker on March 18, 2022. He is CEO of MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, a national organization unifying and elevating the youth mentoring field through expertise, advocacy, and recruitment. For the last 15 years, he has dedicated his career to driving equity through the power of relationships as a servant leader for the mentoring movement. His thought leadership and movement-building expertise gained recognition from the Social Impact Exchange, the Stanford Social Innovation Review, and Grantmakers for Effective Organizations.
“David’s leadership and advocacy for youth mentorship align with BHCC’s equity-minded values,” said Pam Eddinger, President of BHCC. “His global perspective on building relationships and his support of education will be an asset to the College and its students.”
Under Shapiro’s leadership, MENTOR has partnered with leading global brands including the NBA, Nike, Starbucks, LinkedIn, and others to expand quality mentoring relationships for young people through mentor recruitment. He has grown its national footprint to include 24 local Affiliates in communities nationwide; and has worked extensively with the Obama Foundation to center mentoring through My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. MENTOR has created partnerships with leading philanthropic institutions including the Carnegie Endowment, Gates Foundation, Schultz Family Foundation, and American Student Assistance, all to integrate an intentional and rigorous approach to relationship support into education, workforce development, and juvenile justice through a range of models and target populations.
The Board of Trustees of Bunker Hill Community College serves as the governing body responsible for setting policy to achieve the mission and goals of Bunker Hill Community College. Members exemplify a standard of leadership that is ethical, values diversity and promotes student success.
