Adam J. Foss on Criminal Justice Reform
Thursday, October 3, 2019
Criminal justice reform advocate Adam Foss spoke on Thursday, September 26, 2019, kicking off Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC)’s 2019-2020 Compelling Conversations series.During his nine years as a prosecutor, Foss collaborated with courts and the community to develop programs that continue to have a positive impact on Boston’s neighborhoods. Before leaving the District Attorney’s Office he helped pioneer the first juvenile diversion program in Suffolk County, keeping young people out of the cradle-to-prison pipeline, and was recently named Changemaker of the Year by the Mandela Foundation.
Recognized as one of the Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company, Foss founded Prosecutor Impact, a nonprofit that develops training and curriculum for prosecutors to reframe their role in the criminal justice system. “Imagine a universe,” Foss told students, “where rather than being afraid of telling law enforcement or a prosecutor you’ve done something wrong because you’re afraid of the consequence, that you look at them as resource that will help you.”
Prior to the presentation, Foss visited students studying corrections and criminal justice at the College and enjoyed lunch prepared by the College’s Culinary Arts students in the Thomas A. Kershaw Dining Room.
