This workshop is designed for students who want to apply for scholarships or understand how to fund your degree. It is recommended for students who are planning or have already applied to a four-year institution, but is not required.

Weaving Together Our Stories Through Song

How do you tell your story? Are you a singer, poet, rapper, producer, dancer, artist, actor, parent, student? What stories do we share and how do our individual stories intertwine? We are inviting the entire BHCC college community, students, clubs, faculty, staff, and alumni, to participate in a collage art project entitled "Weaving Together Our Stories Through Song." This collaboration is offered together with the Office of Student Activities, Performing Arts Department, Music Club, and International Center. It is facilitated by Dr. Riikka Pietiläinen Caffrey, Professor of Music, Paul Moda, Director of Student Leadership and Engagement; and composer Kristin Vining, with BHCC Alumni Taeyoung Lee as Production Assistant. Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, November 15 at 1 p.m. on Zoom. Zoom meetings/rehearsals will culminate into an in-person workshop on Thursday December 1, 4-8 p.m. and two sharings on Friday December 2, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. For more information, please contact Dr. Riikka Pietiläinen Caffrey, at rkpietil@bhcc.edu

“Gaining a Competitive Edge in the Global Marketplace”
Students attend college because they hope that their degrees will open doors that ultimately lead to better career opportunities and higher incomes. The increasing demand of employers who seek graduates with both hard and soft skills reveals that obtaining a college degree is not enough to be competitive. Today’s employers seek graduates with career skills gained by life experiences such as study abroad. Throughout the pandemic we have all seen clearly the interconnectedness of the human condition and critical need to understand people from different cultures in order to address the challenges facing humanity. International education plays a key role in preparing graduates to not only differentiate themselves in the global marketplace, but also to navigate life an interconnected world. Join us in a discussion on the impact and importance of International Education!

Virtual college visits are virtual events that allow Bunker Hill students to meet with transfer admission representatives from bachelor degree granting institutions. During these one hour sessions, students learn about each institution's academic programs, student engagement opportunities, and the process for applying and transferring to these institutions. Students also have the opportunity to ask their own questions.

This workshop will focus on using the BHCCselfservice tool for educational planning purposes. Students will learn how to navigate their Student Planning tab to understand program requirements, find their advisor assignment, and plan and register for courses. Students will learn some tips and tricks for using the Course Catalog to search for course terms, sections and formats.
Join poet and translator Mira Rosenthal and painter Gillian Frazier for a discussion of art that metabolizes the patterns of abuse we inflict on one another and our environment. Mira's new collection of poems, TERRITORIAL will be available for purchase.
The event will be in-person at the college in the A300 Lobby outside the Mary L. Fifield Art Gallery, located in the A Building, 3rd Floor

Difficult conversation with Dr. Angela Miller -Why International Education Matters?

Dr. Angela Miller will address what global learning is and how it is essential to higher education. Dr. Miller considers what global learning provides for teaching, learning, and internationalization in higher education. Dr. Miller will discuss how the global nature of knowledge and learning in the 21st century requires a re-definition of classrooms and learning environments that recognizes how knowledge production today is a collective, global, and diverse process. She will conclude by revealing how a global learning framework has benefits beyond teaching and learning and how it can contribute to the deliberate internationalization of higher education.
