Weaving Together Our Stories Through Song

How do you tell your story? Are you a singer, poet, rapper, producer, dancer, artist, actor, parent, student? What stories do we share and how do our individual stories intertwine? We are inviting the entire BHCC college community, students, clubs, faculty, staff, and alumni, to participate in a collage art project entitled "Weaving Together Our Stories Through Song." This collaboration is offered together with the Office of Student Activities, Performing Arts Department, Music Club, and International Center. It is facilitated by Dr. Riikka Pietiläinen Caffrey, Professor of Music, Paul Moda, Director of Student Leadership and Engagement; and composer Kristin Vining, with BHCC Alumni Taeyoung Lee as Production Assistant. Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, November 15 at 1 p.m. on Zoom. This workshop will focus on using the BHCCselfservice tool for educational planning purposes. Students will learn how to navigate their Student Planning tab to understand program requirements, find their advisor assignment, and plan and register for courses. Students will learn some tips and tricks for using the Course Catalog to search for course terms, sections and formats.
Join poet and translator Mira Rosenthal and painter Gillian Frazier for a discussion of art that metabolizes the patterns of abuse we inflict on one another and our environment. Mira's new collection of poems, TERRITORIAL will be available for purchase.
The event will be in-person at the college in the A300 Lobby outside the Mary L. Fifield Art Gallery, located in the A Building, 3rd Floor

Difficult conversation with Dr. Angela Miller -Why International Education Matters?

Dr. Angela Miller will address what global learning is and how it is essential to higher education. Dr. Miller considers what global learning provides for teaching, learning, and internationalization in higher education. Dr. Miller will discuss how the global nature of knowledge and learning in the 21st century requires a re-definition of classrooms and learning environments that recognizes how knowledge production today is a collective, global, and diverse process. She will conclude by revealing how a global learning framework has benefits beyond teaching and learning and how it can contribute to the deliberate internationalization of higher education.

Culture Shock with Ms. Teela Foxworth

Join us for an evening discussion with Ms. Foxworth as she discusses consideration that students should be aware of before going abroad and establishment tools to process culture shock.
In this presentation, Foxworth will discuss culture shock for first-time students traveling abroad. We will overview the different stages of culture shock and Foxworth will provide helpful suggestions and tips on how to healthily process the mental, emotional and physical changes that come with going abroad.
Teela Foxworth is a seasoned educator and has spent 12 years in the community and university collegiate setting as both an instructor and a Department Chair. Foxworth was the 2017 recipient of NISOD’s National Teaching Award for her work in planning, executing and taking a group of students on a faculty-led program to study Intercultural Communication in Peru. She is a small business owner, travel enthusiast and enjoys reading in her free time.

Whether you are applying for scholarship or to transfer, interviewing for a job or figuring out what your purpose in life is, how to tell your story is an important part of developing yourself for leadership.
All BHCC Students are invited to the Fall Student Leadership Conference called "The Power of Your Story" on Thursday, November 17 from 1 pm - 3 pm. We're bringing in 3 Master Storytellers who will teach you the steps and provide you with resources to teach you how to write and develop your story and crafting your narrative.

Recommended for students with 30-60 credits. Are you getting close to graduating? This workshop will focus on the final two stages of transferring: Applying and Deciding. Recommended for students who have attended Transfer 101 Workshop. Topics that will be covered include: applying to four-year colleges and making informed decisions on which colleges to attend, requesting letters of recommendations, writing your transfer essays, and using the Common Application.

Weaving Together Our Stories Through Song - Second Meeting

How do you tell your story? Are you a singer, poet, rapper, producer, dancer, artist, actor, parent, student? What stories do we share and how do our individual stories intertwine? We are inviting the entire BHCC college community, students, clubs, faculty, staff, and alumni, to participate in a collage art project entitled "Weaving Together Our Stories Through Song." This collaboration is offered together with the Office of Student Activities, Performing Arts Department, Music Club, and International Center. It is facilitated by Dr. Riikka Pietiläinen Caffrey, Professor of Music, Paul Moda, Director of Student Leadership and Engagement; and composer Kristin Vining, with BHCC Alumni Taeyoung Lee as Production Assistant. Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, November 15 at 1 p.m. on Zoom.
