On February 7, 1926, Carter G. Woodson, initiated the first celebration of Negro History Week which led to Black History Month, a month dedicated to deepening the study and scholarship of African American contributions in the United States. But every February which inventors, innovators and activators generally receive the most attention? Usually it’s Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Frederick Douglass, etc. This discussion will go beyond those standard bearers of Black History Month, not to lessen their contributions, but as a testament to a few of the thousands of individuals who have helped build our nation. Join Dr. Brandy Brooks as she revisits and continues the conversation.
Presenter Brandy Brooks, Ph.D., Assistant Director of Adult Education and Adjunct Faculty of History and Social Sciences, Chelsea Campus
Remarks by Michelle Rojas Surin, Director, Workforce and Economic Development
