Boston Living Center is a community and resource center for people with HIV/AIDS, whose mission is to foster the wellness of all HIV positive people and respond to the changing needs of the HIV/AIDS community. Serve lunch and dinner, welcome guests to the Center, help at special events, or use special skills such as knitting, massage, or hair cutting.

Boston Rescue Mission provides shelter and other social services to people struggling with homelessness, substance abuse, and incarceration. Serve meals, work at the front desk, use any maintenance/electrical/plumbing skills to help maintain the shelter, and more.

Catholic Charities provides social services to those who are struggling in our communities, including children, the elderly, and refugees and immigrants. (You do not need to be Catholic to volunteer or to receive services.) Explore a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, including helping in a food pantry, visiting elders, and caring for children.

Community Servings provides free home-delivered meals to people homebound with HIV/AIDS and other acute life-threatening illnesses and these people’s families. Help prepare meals for delivery in the organization’s kitchen. To get started, attend orientation, held every Wednesday night 6-6:30 PM (call ahead to 617-522-7777 to make sure it is not canceled).

Dotwell is an initiative to build civic engagement and social capital in the Dorchester community. Explore a variety of volunteer opportunities in Dorchester, from one-time events to long-term volunteer commitments.

East End House meets community needs in East Cambridge through innovative programs for children, families, and seniors. Help out at “farmers markets” for seniors and people with disabilities, organize the food pantry, or help with childcare and after-school programs, or mentor a local youth.

Greater Boston Food Bank collects food and distributes it to 600 hunger-relief agencies in Eastern Massachusetts. Help in the warehouse to sort food donations and package food to be sent out to food pantries, shelters, and other agencies.

New England Center for Homeless Veterans provides shelter, case management, training and education, and other resources to homeless men and women veterans struggling with addiction, trauma, severe and persistent mental illness, and/or unemployment. Serve meals to veterans as an individual volunteer or in a small group.

Women’s Lunch Place provides a safe, comfortable daytime shelter, nutritious food, and services for women who are homeless or poor. Prepare and serve meals or ask about volunteering in other capacities.
