Meet the Staff

The Language Lab Staff




John Avellar
John Avellar has been a tutor at the Bunker Hill Community College Language Lab from the first day it opened.  He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Boston, and has worked as an English teacher for many years.



Fred Brown
Fred Brown first came to BHCC in the fall of 2004 as an adjunct English professor after having taught English in Boston area public middle and high schools for thirty years. He was graduated from the Boston Public Schools many years ago and received his Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and his Master’s degree from Lesley University. In addition to his work with the English department, Fred also serves with the Allied Health Programs, Workforce Development, and the Assessment Center where he assists ESL students in course selection. When time permits, he also volunteers as an unofficial assistant advisor for the BHCC Stage and Screen Club. Fred is excited about the expansion of the circle of students, staff, and faculty with whom he works that his role in the Language Lab will provide.

 

Pamela D'Ambrosio
Pamela is a full-time BHCC student who is studying to become a Radiologist Assistant. She has been at BHCC since fall 2007 and resides from Avellino, Italy . She studied in Naples, Italy , where she attended “ l’Orientale University” and she graduated with a BA in Foreign Languages in March 2006. She assists faculty and students with various classes and homework assignments.



Todd Hannig
Todd Hannig is the TOEFL specialist in the Language Lab. He knows the TOEFL test can be frustrating, but he also knows many strategies that can help reduce stress and improve scores. He holds an MA in TESOL from Columbia University, and he has taught ESL for more than 14 years in Taiwan, Korea, and Boston. He is available to answer any questions about TOEFL, grammar, and writing, and he is also happy to share some fun daytrip ideas around the Boston area.



Erica Huang
Erica  is a Work Study student who has been attending BHCC for several semesters. She speaks fluent Chinese and assists students in the Lab on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. After graduating from BHCC, she plans to transfer to a four year college.

Carmen Magaña
Carmen Magaña is a Full-Time Bilingual Tutor in the Language Lab.  She comes from a background in education and in the last 15 years has worked in area high schools and adult education programs teaching literacy, Spanish and English as a Second Language.  Carmen is available to help students improve their language skills in English, Spanish and French, and to support staff and students in the use of the technology available in the Language Lab.

Maria Paola Martinez
Hello my mane is Maria Paola Martinez. I am an international student from Colombia and I have been studying at BHCC for the past three semesters. Right now my major is general studies, but I’m applying for the nursing program. I speak Spanish, English and I am learning Italian, so whenever you need help with something stop at the Language Lab and I will be happy to help you.

Alessandro Massaro
Sandro Massaro is responsible for making the Lab become reality. He is the ESL Department Chair and assists with all aspects of the Lab's future direction. The Lab staff is appreciates all of his efforts in making the Lab what it is today.

Antonietta Palazzo
Antonietta has been working in the Language Lab since it opened. Antonietta is a Bunker Hill Community College alumna and received a degree in business administration with a minor in accounting 25 years ago. As an Italian speaker and an immigrant, Antonietta appreciates the support the Language Lab provides students learning a new language and is happy to answer questions related to services and technology available in the Language Lab.



Sentiana Prendi

Sentiana Prendi is an international student from Albania and her major is Business Concentration. She has been at BHCC since spring 2008. Also, she speaks Albanian, Greek and English. Sentiana is very patient and looks forward to answering the student's questions.



Nïma Sadki
Nima is an international student from morocco, tangier. She has been at BHCC since last June 2008. She wants to study radiology and become a radiologist in the future. She has been working in the language lab for two semester and she is willing to get experience that the language lab provides, and also she looks forward to help student who learning Arabic language.



Jenifer Viencek
Jenifer  (MA English Literature & Film Studies Certification, Northeastern University; MA Educational Administration, University of Wisconsin-Madison; BA English Literature, University of California-Riverside; AA, Chaffey Community College-Rancho Cucamonga, CA) has been teaching various levels of Composition, from Basic Writing Skills to Writing for the Technical Professions, at several local academic institutions (Bunker Hill Community College, Northeastern University, and CPS ) for the past 9 years. Professional interests include Renaissance Literature, Film Studies (with a focus on modern adaptations of Shakespeare), Rhetorical Methods, and (Pop) Cultural Studies. Guilty (or not so guilty) pleasures include: open water swimming, yoga, her Netflix queue, and California reds.
