Bunker Hill Community College in Top 100 for Graduates of Color
June 11, 2009, Boston, MA – This year “Diverse” Magazine – the most widely read magazine in the nation on issues affecting people of color in higher education – added a new addition to its annual Top 100 degree producer series. This new category recognizes those higher education institutions which award the most associate degrees to students of color. Healthcare Leader Dr. Gary Gottlieb Keynotes Commencement
May 15, 2009, Boston, MA – Dr. Gary L. Gottlieb, President of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, will be the keynote speaker at Bunker Hill Community College’s 35th commencement exercises, on Saturday, May 30, at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Gottlieb, a strong proponent of alleviating health care disparities, will receive the President’s Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his outstanding commitment and service to the College. BHCC Graduate Wins Computer Software Engineering Award
May 14, 2009 -- Boston, MA. Truong Than, a 2007 graduate of Bunker Hill Community College, has won the Computer Science Alumni Award for Excellence in Software Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Boston. He received an Associate in Science degree in Computer Science at BHCC in June 2007. While at the College, Than was already a standout student in his field: he won both the Special Achievement and the Academic Excellence Awards from the Computer Science Department. Bunker Hill Community College Teaches Tech Skills to Unemployed
BOSTON, March 27, 2009 – Bunker Hill Community College this month trained its 250th student in the Microsoft Information Technology Community Connections Program, an innovative partnership with five Boston-area nonprofit organizations to help those under-employed and out of work. A grant from the Microsoft Unlimited Potential Community Technology Skills Program, administered through the Boston Foundation, supports the training. BHCC coordinates the program with the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción/Villa Victoria, East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, Jewish Vocational Services, and MissionSAFE. Danish Students Learn Global Business Skills at Bunker Hill Community College
March 12, 2009, BOSTON, MA – On Friday, March 13th, 24 Danish vocational students will complete two weeks of study at Bunker Hill Community College. The students, from the Handelsskolen Minerva Business Academy in Randers, Denmark, will have completed a two-week course of study designed to prepare them to succeed in the global economy. BHCC Entrepreneurship Center Wins Hughes Foundation Grant
BOSTON, MA -- February 17, 2009. The John E. and Jeanne T. Hughes Charitable Foundation awarded Bunker Hill Community College a $7,500 grant to provide financial support for the second year of the Community Center for Entrepreneurship (CCE). Gloria Steinem, Women's Rights Activist, Speaks on Tuesday, February 24th at Bunker Hill Community College
February 17, 2009 - Boston, MA. Gloria Steinem, renowned feminist, writer and lecturer will speak at Bunker Hill Community College on Tuesday, February 24th. Steinem will be this year’s second speaker in the College’s “Compelling Conversations” speaker series, which is free and open to the public. Her lecture will take place at 1:00 p.m. in the A 300 Auditorium, and is followed by a book signing and reception. Steinem will be signing two of her bestsellers Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem and Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions as well as her most recent book, titled Doing Sixty and Seventy. BHCC Student Wins S. Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef New England Competition
February 13, 2009 – Boston, MA. BHCC culinary arts’ student Erik Powers won one of the most prestigious student awards in the world of haute cuisine: The S. Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef New England Competition. The other student competitors represented at the event came from some of the most renowned schools of culinary arts in the region, including: New England Culinary Institute, Johnson & Wales University and Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. BHCC was the only community college in this year’s New England competition. S. Bunker Hill Community College Celebrates “Wear Red Day.”
Boston, February 11 – Bunker Hill Community College is striking back – preemptively – against women’s cardiovascular disease. BHCC held a series of events on National Wear Red Day – Friday, February 6th – to raise awareness that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women. Stickers with the red-dress motif – national symbol of this health campaign – were handed out to the entire College community, many of whom also sported red shirts, ties, jackets, and blouses as a sign of solidarity in the fight for women’s heart health. Bunker Hill Community College On Presidential Honor Roll for Community Service
Boston, February 9, 2009 – The Corporation for National and Community Service honored Boston’s Bunker Hill Community College today with a place on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts and service to America’s communities. A total of 22 Massachusetts colleges and universities were recognized as Honor Roll members, including Boston College, College of the Holy Cross, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Carnegie Foundation Selects Boston’s Bunker Hill Community College for 2008 Community Engagement Classification.
Boston, January 15, 2009 –Bunker Hill Community College was selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for its 2008 Community Engagement Classification.
