2008-03-13 - Workforce Development Grant Workshop at BHCC
Boston, March 13, 2008 – Small-business owners, human resources and training professionals and anyone responsible for staff training are invited to Bunker Hill Community College at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2008, for a lunchtime briefing on how to obtain and use Massachusetts Workforce Development Training Fund grants. Our speaker will be Michael Corcoran from the Massachusetts Department of Workforce Development.
“Employee training is not beyond the reach of even small businesses, thanks to the many state grants available from workforce training funds. The goal of this session is to show businesses how to apply for these grants,” said Les Warren, Executive Director of Workforce Development, BHCC. “Nothing is more important to business success and a strong local economy than trained employees. Our mission is to help businesses achieve their training goals.”
The Workforce Training Grants, funded by Massachusetts businesses, became law in July 1998. Those receiving training must be employed in Massachusetts. State employees are not eligible. Depending on the size of the business, grants can be as high as $3,000 per trainee and more than $100,000 in total for a business. Training grant decisions can be made within weeks of the application. “Grants are available for just a few employees or for company-wide efforts. All employers in Massachusetts should be aware of these grants,” said Warren.
The program will be held on BHCC’s Charlestown campus in Room E175. To register for this event, go to our online registration form at www.bhcc.mass.edu/workforce-events, or email us at workforce-events@bhcc.mass.edu or call 617 228-2414 to reserve a seat.
