2007-11-29 - Bunker Hill Community College Offers Allied Health Courses

Bunker Hill Community College will conduct information sessions at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007, and Friday, January 11, 2008, for those interested in studying to become patient care technicians and medical assistants. The two-hour sessions, held in Room B222 at the College’s Charlestown campus, are open to all, and no appointment is necessary.

The programs prepare both native English and limited-English speakers for a variety of inpatient and outpatient positions in hospitals, clinics, neighborhood health centers and the home environment.   Those successfully completing the courses receive a BHCC Certificate, and most also receive State Nurse Aide, Home Health Aide and CPR certifications.

Federal financial aid is available for both the patient care technician and medical assistant programs. A limited number of students may also qualify for additional financial assistance through a grant to train Boston residents for jobs and prepare them for a career ladder in health care.

Applicants must meet BHCC registration requirements, pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check, and be available to attend daytime classes between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.  Additional hours will be required for clinical internships.

Individual appointments are available for those who cannot make the scheduled sessions, by calling 617-228-2475.  The Spring/Summer session begins on January 22, 2008, and continues through August, 2008.
