2006-09-28 - BHCC Appoints New Dean of Nurse Education & Health Professions

Boston, September 28, 2006 – Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) has appointed Roxanne E. Mihal, RN, MSN, CS–ANP as the Dean of Nurse Education and Health Professions. Mihal will oversee Allied Health, Nurse Education, Medical Imaging and Surgical Technology at the College.

“Dean Mihal brings a wealth of experience and a proven history of achievement in the nursing and education fields to her position at the College,” said Mary L. Fifield, President Bunker Hill Community College. “With the healthcare industry playing such an important role in our local economy, it was important for us to select a Dean of Nursing and Health Professions who understands the current state of the field, and can translate her clinical and academic experience into success in the field for our students.”

Prior to coming to Bunker Hill Community College, Mihal was the Program Director for the Adult Practical Nursing Program at the Tri–County RVSD in Franklin, MA, where she was responsible for developing the nursing program curriculum and course content. She has also worked as the Academic Administrator for the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing, overseeing the program𔃅s faculty and more than 350 students.

A nurse for more than 30 years, she is currently a Nurse Practitioner for the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program and also in Surgery/Nutritional Support for Massachusetts General Hospital. Mihal holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Southeastern Mass. University (now known as UMass Dartmouth) and an Associate of Science in Nursing from Catherine Laboure Junior College in Dorchester.

“As a graduate of a community college, I know firsthand about the opportunities a community college education can create,” said Mihal. “I believe in community colleges, and the move to Bunker Hill allows me to give back to a system that gave so much to me. The many different programs in nursing and the health professions that the College offers empower our graduates to go out into the healthcare workforce and create a presence that accurately reflects the diversity of our community.”
