2006-07-12 - Dr. Charles Abasa-Nyarko Joins BHCC As Vice President of Academic Affairs
Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) has appointed Charles Abasa–Nyarko, Ph.D. as the Vice President of Academic Affairs effective immediately. Abasa–Nyarko is a member of the President’s Cabinet and will serve as the Chief Academic Officer for the College, administering the development, management and evaluation of all academic programs as well as oversight of the Chelsea campus, the eCollege/Weekend College and the Library.
“We conducted an extensive national search to find Charles. Dr. Abasa–Nyarko who is a perfect fit for Bunker Hill Community College. He brings a balance of strong prior experience as Chief Academic Officer and a solid track record of accomplishments. We are very pleased to have him on board,” said Mary L. Fifield, President Bunker Hill Community College.
Abasa–Nyarko holds a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of South Carolina, an M.A. in Political Science from Brigham Young University and a B.A. in Political Science with Economics from the University of Ghana. Immediately prior to joining BHCC, Abasa–Nyarko was the Vice President of Academic Services at Gloucester County College in Sewell, New Jersey where he began work in 2003. Before that, he served as the Co–Chief Academic Officer and Dean of Arts and Sciences at Muskegon Community College, Muskegon, Michigan from 2000 to 2003.
“For me, the move to Bunker Hill Community College made sense. The College has a reputation for having good programs and strong leadership, and I think it is also an opportunity to work at a progressive institution,” said Abasa–Nyarko. “I am looking forward to getting settled and getting to know the faculty, staff and students.”
