2009-06-11 - Bunker Hill Community College in Top 100 for Graduates of Color
June 11, 2009, Boston, MA – This year “Diverse” Magazine – the most widely read magazine in the nation on issues affecting people of color in higher education – added a new addition to its annual Top 100 degree producer series. This new category recognizes those higher education institutions which award the most associate degrees to students of color. In this new ranking, Bunker Hill Community College was in the top 100 institutions in 13 different categories:
1) The College ranked no. 3 for Psychology degrees awarded to African Americans;
2) no. 28 for Psychology degrees awarded to Hispanics;
3) no. 20 for Psychology degrees awarded to total minorities;
4) no. 8 for Engineering degrees awarded to Asians;
5) no. 48 for Engineering degrees awarded to total minorities;
6) no. 8 for Biological and Biomedical Sciences degrees awarded to African Americans;
7) no. 14 for Biological and Biomedical Sciences degrees awarded to Asians;
8) no. 16 for Biological and Biomedical Sciences awarded to total minorities;
9) no. 10 for Education degrees awarded to Asians;
10) no. 13 for Business, Management, Marketing and Related Support Services degrees awarded to Asians;
11) no. 33 for Business, Management, Marketing and Related Support Services degrees awarded to total minorities;
12) no. 40 for Accounting and Related Services degrees awarded to total minorities;
13) and no. 95 for degrees in All Disciplines Combined awarded to Asians.
Bunker Hill Community College’s high standing in this study reflects the College’s strong commitment to diversity and the recruitment of people of color and minorities. BHCC – the largest community college in Massachusetts – is one of the most diverse institutions of higher education in the state. Six in ten students are people of color, and the College also enrolls more than 690 international students who come from more than 103 countries and speak 75 different languages.
