2008-11-14 - Northeastern University Invites Bunker Hill Community College to Participate in Opening Event for Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Boston, November 14, 2008. Northeastern University has invited Bunker Hill Community College to participate in its kickoff event for Global Entrepreneurship Week, November 17-21. BHCC, the largest community college in Massachusetts, will showcase its entrepreneurship programs alongside some of the most well known private colleges in the Boston area on November 17th.
The College’s Community Center for Entrepreneurship is sponsoring a weeklong series of its own events for Global Entrepreneurship Week at its Boston campus, in Charlestown. Dr. Bogusia Wojciechowska, Dean of Professional Studies at the College, stated that the current economic climate has created an urgent need for helping people to develop new entrepreneurial skills. “Many people are going back to college now because they have lost their job and want to be self-sufficient,” said Wojciechowska.
BHCC’s lineup of events and speakers includes a stellar cast of top-notch professionals from business, government and journalism. These are some of the events to be offered: On Monday, November 17th at 10:00 A.M. (Room E175) Annamarie Kersten, Regional Director of the Massachusetts Office of Business Development will deliver a lecture titled: “Overview of State Programs, Incentives & Tax Credits for Business.” At 2:30 P.M. (A300 Auditorium) the film “The Powder & The Glory: The Story of Elizabeth Arden & Helena Rubenstein” will be shown. A reception, honoring the films award-winning directors, Ann Carol Grossman & Arnie Reisman, will take place after the film.
In the evening, the College will showcase its entrepreneurship programs from 6:30 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. at the Curry Student Center, Northeastern University, also in Boston. On Tuesday, November 18th at 1:00 P.M. (A300 lobby) Scott Kirsner, Business Writer at the Boston Globe, will speak on “New England’s Innovation Economy: Strengths & Challenges.” On Wednesday, November 19th at 10:00 A.M. (Room B112) Elizabeth Marascia, CEO of the Andover Auto School, will speak on the topic of “Managing and Marketing a Small Business.“ At 1:00 P.M. (Room D216) Ray Welliver, Vice President Senior Loan Servicing Group of State Street Corporation, will deliver a talk on “Customer Service - The Connection to Organizational Success.” On Thursday, November 20th at 10:00 A.M. (C202 Lecture Hall) Maria Patricia Duque will speak about ethnic marketing. At 1:30 P.M. exhibitors in the main lobby (2nd floor) will present small businesses active in ethnic marketing (jewelry and fabrics). The Small Business Administration will also be offering advice to entrepreneurs. At 2:30 P.M. (C202 Lecture Hall) David Polatin, Lead Business Development Specialist, U.S. Small Business Association, will present a lecture titled “Ready, Set, Go!”
