2008-10-06 - Colleen Roach to Head Communications and Marketing at Bunker Hill Community College

Boston, October 6, 2008 -- Colleen Roach, a Fulbright Scholar with a doctorate in communications from the University of Paris, has joined Bunker Hill Community College as Executive Director of Communications and Marketing, BHCC President Mary L. Fifield announced. Dr. Roach, who has more than 15 years of experience in higher education, has worked as a communications consultant to the United Nations in Asia and Europe. She has also worked in the corporate sector, with IBM Global Services.

“With our highest enrollment ever, almost 9,500 students, with new academic programs, and with the construction of the new state-of-the-art Health and Wellness Center, the College has never had more good news,” said Fifield.  “Dr. Roach’s  extensive experience in communications will enable the College to reach a new level of public visibility, which is especially important for our upcoming Capital Campaign.”

In addition to her doctorate, Roach’s other educational credentials include: a bachelor’s degree in both English and Spanish from the University of Michigan, a master’s in Latin American Studies from the University of Paris and a journalism diploma from New York University. She was a professor of communications for more than a decade at two New York City institutions, Fordham University and the City University of New York.  She also taught in the Humanities Department at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, Connecticut.  

Roach co-authored a widely published article with Nobel Prize Laureate Sean MacBride.  She has published a book on communications and peace and more than 50 articles and book chapters.  Many of her articles have been translated into other languages.

Roach’s journalism includes articles in the New York Times, in the Gannett newspaper chain in New York and in a range of regional magazines in New York, Connecticut and New Mexico.  Roach’s previous positions include Director of Communications at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Director of Marketing at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.
