Responsibilities:: Bunker Hill Community College invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services. Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President serves as the chief academic and student services officer. The Vice President provides leadership and direction to the academic divisions, a second campus in Chelsea, BhccOnline/weekend College and all academic and student support services. This is an opportunity for an experienced, politically astute educator to work with a seasoned president, dedicated faculty and staff, a diverse student body and a highly supportive Board of Trustees to assist a high-performing institution attain new levels of excellence, accountability and service. The ideal candidate is a leader who will be able to work in a fast-paced environment and to serve as a catalyst for the changes necessary for the continued success of the College. The Vice President will work closely with the President and the college community to implement institutional priorities such as using evidence based data for student persistence and completion; institutionalization of learning communities; creation of new curricula to meet employment needs; development of innovative approaches to streamlining enrollment services; and college sustainability.
The Vice President will be able to build upon a solid foundation of achievement and progress toward the Colleges goals as evidenced by a sample of recent accomplishments:
Recipient of a $1.9 million Title III grant for The Engaged Campus, with a focus on increasing graduation rates through the creation of learning communities
Designated an Achieving the Dream institution, one of 102 out of 1,100 community colleges nationwide
Winner of the Green Design Concept Award from the Education Design Showcase for the new health and wellness center.
One of nine community colleges out of 1,200 nationally selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a 2008 Community Engagement Campus
Bunker Hill Community College serves more than 11,000 credit students with 86 degree and certificate programs. Additionally, the College operates a Workforce Development Center and a Community Education Department. BHCC is one of the most diverse and cosmopolitan colleges in Boston, including international students who come from 94 countries and speak 75 different languages. Six in ten students are people of color and more than half of BHCCs students are women.
Requirements: Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate.
College-level teaching experience.
Record of achievement in academic administration, preferably as a Chief Academic Officer.
Commitment to a student-centered learning environment and comprehensive community college mission.
Proactive advocacy of AACCs Statement of Inclusion.
Ability to:
Provide leadership to the faculty in the development of new degree and certificate programs and institutionalization of learning communities.
Provide leadership for the realization of strategic goals and strategies related to student retention and completion.
Make data-driven decisions to promote student success.
Increase the rate of success for all students, especially students enrolled in developmental courses.
Provide leadership in the development of streamlined enrollment processes.
Function in a politicized urban setting characterized by complex demographics and collective bargaining.
Promote an environment in which all are respected and welcomed regardless of differences such as: race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, national origin and special needs.
Listen well; accurately interpret what is said and involve faculty and staff in decision-making.
Work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
Salary range: $145,000-$150,000
