Student Success” Request for Proposals

Bunker Hill Community College welcomes proposals for presentations in the following areas:

  • Sustainability - Proposals in this area will demonstrate the inclusion of environmental preservation, defined as “awakening the awareness of the concept of a green and lasting world,” in every discipline and across the full spectrum of teaching and learning, from syllabi to classroom activities, field trips, assessment and campus-wide involvement.

  • The Digital Campus - Proposals in this area will focus on using technology to engage students in learning, enhance classroom instruction and increase student participation. Topics may include podcasting, streaming media, Web 2.0 tools and applications, social networking, Voice-Over IP and other emerging technologies that stimulate student creativity and success.

  • Student Engagement - Proposals in this area will explore how colleges can create a culture of engagement both within and outside of the classroom and thus promote student success. Topics might include interactive teaching strategies, integrated and active learning, community service, civic engagement, learning communities, holistic advising and innovative practices in student services.

Proposal Format
Proposals must include the following:
1. Title of presentation
2. Appropriate placement in one of the areas
3. Abstract (250 words)
4. Description for conference program (50 words)
5. Name(s), title(s), and institution(s) of presenters
6. Name and e-mail address of contact person
7. Technical requirements (please list everything)
8. Expected length of presentation (maximum 45 minutes)

Proposal Submission Deadline: November 30, 2009
Notification of Acceptance February 1, 2010


Proposals will be scored on the following criteria:

  1. Clarity and appeal of title, abstract, and presentation plan
  2. Indication of learning outcomes derived from topic
  3. Degree of collaboration with colleagues
  4. Appropriateness of topic to the conference areas
  5. Likelihood of broad interest in topic
