Bunker Hill Community College Role
Bunker Hill Community College is using the Building Careers in ECE grant monies by offering three-to-four courses within the Associate in Science Degree in Early Childhood Education at the Charlestown or Chelsea campus. BHCCs’ building careers coordinator recruits 20-25 eligible early childcare professionals to fill each class. Candidates must meet teacher eligibility requirements to be accepted into the building careers program.
Accepted students gain access to academic and careers advising from the Chair of the Early Childhood Education and Human Services department at BHCC. Students are required to matriculate (officially enroll) in the Early Childhood Development Associates in Science degree program or related field. Related fields include: child development, elementary education, child guidance, human services, psychology, physical education, recreation, child psychology, the arts, social work, and sociology.
Students qualifying for any or all of these courses do not have to pay; they are only financially responsible for the textbooks and parking permit.
As a condition for participating in the building careers program, students have to agree to remain in the field of early education and out-of-school time field for 6 months for every semester that funding from the Building Careers programs is received. Students who fail to comply with this requirement may be required to pay for financial assistance received through the grant program.
