How to Qualify
If you are interested in being accepted into the Building Careers in ECE program and meet the Teacher Eligibility criteria, please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Request Official Transcripts
If you have taken college-level coursework, contact the college(s) and have your official transcripts sent to:
Jack Chan
Bunker Hill Community College
250 New Rutherford Avenue
Boston, MA 02129
If you have taken credit courses at BHCC, you do not have to request your transcript from BHCC. Contact Jack Chan to let him know you took classes at BHCC. Transcripts must be received by April 21, 2008 in order to be considered for the summer 2008 courses. Failure to comply will hurt your chances to enroll in the course(s). Seats are not guaranteed as they are available as first come, first serve basis.
Step 2: Complete the BHCC admissions application and In-state Tuition form, and supply all requested residency and other documents.
If you are submitting Utility bills (telephone, electric, cable, water, gas), Credit card statement or Bank statement as PROOF of MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENCY, they must be dated six months or prior. This demonstrates you have lived in Massachusetts a minimum of six months.
Step 3: Take the Computerized Placement Test (CPT)
If you have not taken a college-level writing or math course, you are required to take the CPT test at Bunker Hill Community College (Charlestown campus). The test is administered on a computer and contains three sections: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills and Math. You are exempt from taking the Reading and Writing CPT if your official transcript shows you have successfully completed a college-level writing course. You are exempt from taking the Math CPT if you’ve successfully completed a college-level math course.
If you have taken the CPT two or more years ago, you will need to test again. If you are planning to take a math course, and you have not taken any college-level math course, you must take the math portion of the test. Report your placement results to Jack Chan, 617-228-2157, as soon as you have obtained them.
Bring your government-issued photo ID on the day of the CPT. Tell the assessment staff member that you are part of the Building Careers in ECE program and would like to take the CPT. Allow yourself three hours to take the assessment.
