Our academic advisors are dedicated to providing continuous academic advising services to strengthen, nurture, empower, and assist students to make sound and responsible academic decisions through their educational career at the College.

Academic Advising Mission:

Advising in an ongoing teaching and learning process engaging the student with the entire college community, resulting in a plan for academic and career success as well as personal development.

Academic Advising:

Academic advisors are available for all currently accepted certificate and degree seeking students at BHCC.

Students who are interested in applying to the College and or have questions about transferring to BHCC should contact Admissions and Enrollment Services at 617-228-3398.

Newly Accepted Student Advising and Registration:

After applying for admission, newly accepted students will receive directions for logging onto the student Portal with their acceptance packet. By logging on to the Portal new students can access information on next steps by clicking on the “new students learn more” icon.  It is important that students log on and follow the steps as soon as possible.  Our mandatory Advising & Registration sessions will help you understand the requirements for your chosen program of study and choose courses.  Registering for courses early is an important step in getting off to the right start and reaching your goals.

When will new students be assigned an Advisor?

During the first semester of study, students accepted into a degree or certificate program will be assigned for academic advising to either

  • a specific Advisor,
  • their Learning Community Seminar Instructor,
  • their Department of Study,
  • to the Advising Center or
  • to an ESL faculty member or to ESL Advising (located in Room B118) for students studying English as a Second Language.

Assigned Advisor can be found in the My Profile section of the Academic Profile Menu of WebAdvisor in your Portal account.

What does an Advisor do?

The Advisor's role includes, but is not limited to, helping students plan their academic course load, continue developing their LifeMap, monitor their academic progress, and to serve as a resource for career planning and academic and student support services. Students should visit the Portal and check their BHCC e-mail daily for information on group advising sessions and other important advising related announcements.

For additional advising information and resources, currently enrolled students can visit the Portal.
