Double the size of the Nurse Education Program
by admitting day, evening, and weekend students for the Spring 2004 semester, in response to the national nursing shortage.

Improve access to online services such as registration, advising, counseling, time management, activities announcements, and more, through a five-year technology grant of $1,087,450 from CampusEAI and the Oracle Corporation.

Establish an Early Alert Program to identify students who are academically at risk and encourage them to seek support — all during the first 4 weeks of the semester. Students will work with the Tutoring and Academic Support Center to develop and implement a education plan, improving their chances for academic success.

Provide intensive MCAS instruction, tailored to individual needs, to public high school seniors who have not met MCAS requirements. BHCC will be working in collaboration with the Private Industry Council and local high schools.

Launch new online courses and on-site classes at the Villa Victoria satellite campus, using new technology resources to provide residents with tuition-free education and academic support. BHCC will be working in collaboration with Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción, a community development organization.

Expand and refocus Information Technology (IT) education, in partnership with Boston Area Advanced Technological Education Connections (BATEC), by enhancing the IT curriculum, improving student IT training, and providing professional development opportunities for faculty. BHCC received a sizable grant for this initiative, and will carry it out through a unique collaboration with a large number of other partners.

Maximize facility rental revenues and build public recognition of BHCC by working with organizers of national conventions, enabling them to use the Charlestown Campus space and services for meetings, events, and parking.

Renovate the Charlestown Campus
, adding 15,000 square feet to improve the entrance, expand the Advising & Counseling Center and the Adjunct Faculty Center, and provide space for a new gymnasium. Currently, BHCC is the only public institution of higher education in Massachusetts without its own gym.
