Three years ago Bunker Hill Community College began a remarkable journey of transformation. Faculty, staff, trustees and students joined business, civic, educational and community leaders to develop ten goals which have guided the College in all of its activities. Significant improvements in our facilities, processes, programs and services to students have been made. The planning process advanced in January 2002, when more than 100 of Greater Boston’s civic and business leaders joined 100 faculty, staff and students for another strategic planning session to guide the College through 2005. Their contributions, and those of many more on our campuses, have been invaluable. This report, published with the support of the Bunker Hill Community College Foundation, outlines six new goals and first year initiatives, as well as accomplishments from the past three years. I am indebted to all who made this year’s effort such a success. I am especially grateful to Paul Guzzi, President and CEO of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce; Tom Hollister, President and CEO of Citizens Bank; Wendell Knox, President and CEO of Abt Associates; Gloria Cordes Larson, Co-chair, Government Practices Group, Foley Hoag LLP; and Richard Gilman, Publisher of The Boston Globe, for being involved. I thank Jeanne-Marie Boylan, Bunker Hill Community College Board Chair, and Asia Grady, then President of the Student Government Association and now Student Trustee, for their leadership. Our generous sponsors listed on the back page enabled us to hold this special event and I am grateful to all of them. Further, I am appreciative of the College’s Long Range Planning Committee under the leadership of co-chairs Donna DeSimone and Nancy Myers. Bunker Hill Community College serves a vital role by providing quality academic programs and valuable workforce education to our Greater Boston communities. With the enthusiastic support of so many, this will be true for generations to come. Mary L. Fifield, Ph.D. December 2002 |
