The planning process at Bunker Hill Community College is systematic, cyclical and inclusive. In 1999, business and civic leaders, for the first time, were invited to join College faculty, staff, students and trustees to formulate goals to guide the institution for the subsequent three years. The achievements described in the preceding pages summarize progress made since 1999 in meeting these goals.

In January, 2002, the College continued its strategic planning effort by again convening representatives of the College's diverse constituencies. Transforming Bunker Hill Community College... A United Vision for a Stronger Tomorrow, began with a forecast for the future. Led by Paul Guzzi, President and CEO of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, a panel featuring Thomas Hollister, President and CEO of Citizens Bank, Wendell Knox, President and CEO of Abt Associates, and Gloria Cordes Larson, Co-chair, Government Practices Group at Foley Hoag LLP, responded to the question, "If Bunker Hill Community College appeared on the front page of The Boston Globe three years from today, what would the headline read?" Special guest Richard Gilman, Publisher of The Boston Globe, provided a commentary to the suggested front-page headlines. The 200 participants then strategized about these and other prospective accomplishments, past goals and ongoing initiatives. After the morning program, the Bunker Hill Community College participants more specifically defined the suggested goals, incorporating results from a recently held technology summit. Follow-up sessions at the College enabled more faculty, staff and students to provide further refinements. The College's Long Range Planning Committee then produced a report of the final outcomes.

The six new goals resulting from these efforts will guide the College between 2002-2005. At the April 22, 2002 Board meeting, the goals were approved by the Bunker Hill Community College Trustees.
