Picture of Mary L. Fifiel In January 1999, an unprecedented event occurred that would change Bunker Hill Community College for generations to come. For the first time in the history of the institution, noted business, government, education and community leaders joined college faculty, staff and student representatives for a full two-day Future Search Conference. Our goal was ambitious. In a gathering of more than 100 people, we sought nothing less than to transform Bunker Hill Community College. While the conference was an exhilarating event and clearly marked a turning point in our collegeÍs history, it was in many ways, just a beginning.

This report marks the first public declaration of our progress to date. The pages that follow present the highlights and culmination of nearly a year-long planning process and identify only some of the many participants. The centerpiece of this document features ten college goals and accompanying initiatives that will guide our institution for the next three years. Yet, these goals and initiatives represent just a broad brush application of what is to come. They cannot fully capture the intensity of more than 350 detailed action plans created by hundreds of faculty and staff, that now permeate every facet of our college. Many of these initiatives are already well underway. Others remain to be done. The agenda before us is truly ambitious. Our momentum is strong and our commitment is unwavering.

On behalf of our students, who will be the ultimate beneficiaries of our efforts, I express my heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed and continue to give gifts of expertise, time and resources. Together we are building a new college for the next century.
