Status or Documentation Needed to Access Services: The objective of AACA's Chinatown Multi-Service Center is to assist Asians, other immigrants, and economically disadvantaged residents to achieve social self-sufficiency through a wide range of social services.

No status/documentation needed for ESL, English for New Bostonians, or ABE & BASS programs. For any of the 3 job training programs, a client must be a legal resident.

Walk-ins are welcome, but best to call ahead for an appointment.
For college counseling, appointments are required and can be made by calling 617 426 9492.

Description of Program/Services Provided

  • 9-month training program for entry-level jobs in biotech companies, hospital laboratories and research institutions. 
  • Training provided in: chemistry, biology, medical terminology, computers, and lab skills. Students may be eligible to receive 19 credits from Bunker Hill Community College upon completion of the program. 

Status or Documentation Needed to Access Services: Eligibility requirements include: a GED or HS diploma, Massachusetts residency (Cambridge, Boston and Metro-North primarily), income eligibility, age 18+, and good reading and math skills. 

Cost of services: Free tuition to those who meet income eligibility requirements.

Description of Program/Services Provided

  • Environmental Technology Training
  • GED
  • ESOL

Status or Documentation Needed to Access Services:

  • GED applicants must take the TABE and must be at least 16 years old; there is no upper age limit.
  • For the Environmental Technology program, candidates must be 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED certificate. Trainees are chosen based upon performance on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), other assessments, and a personal interview.  Job training applicants must be either U.S. citizens or resident aliens eligible to work. It is preferred that applicants to this program are actively seeking employment in the industry, have a valid MA driver’s license and are low income defined using HUD low-middle income criteria. Applicants must provide appropriate documentation of all eligibility criteria, as well as proof of residence.

Cost of services: There is no cost for the GED, Intermediate ESOL or Environmental Technology job training programs. There is a cost of $300 per 8-week session for the Basic ESOL course.

  • 9-week training program in family child care: Family Child Care Business Enterprise (FCCBE)
  • Office Work in healthcare settings: Employer Partnerships
  • Employer Partnerships affiliated hospitals include: Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital

Status or Documentation Needed to Access Services:
Eligibility requirements for the FCCBE 9 week training program:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • live in Dorchester, Roxbury or surrounding areas.
  • have a high school diploma or a GED
  • be on welfare or have been on welfare in the last year.

Eligibility requirements for the PCWD 5 week training program:

  • Be at least 18 years old and have a professional attitude
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Pass assessments in reading, writing and computer skills
  • Successfully complete CORI screening (Criminal Offender Record Investigation)
  • Provide a reference of 1 full year of steady employment (Former Partners employees are not eligible for this program)
  • Speak, write and understand English
  • Be able to work full-time and complete 90 day probationary period
  • Be eligible to work in the United States

Description of Program/Services Provided

  • Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults 18-24, with a unique combination of technical and professional skills, college credits, an educational stipend and corporate apprenticeship.

Status or Documentation Needed to Access Services: Eligibility requirements:

  • Between the ages of 18-24
  • A High School graduate or GED recipient
  • A low to moderate income resident in the Boston and Cambridge area
  • Interested in a career in a technical field
  • Familiar with basic computer skills
  • A U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or student who is able to work legally in the United States
  • Motivated and willing to work hard to reach your goals and realize your full potential

Cost of services: Free to apply and join Year Up. Students will be paid a stipend between $150 and $280 per week throughout the entire program.
